Get Regular Exercise
Experts say that one of the best ways to improve and nurture your mental health is to get regular exercise. Keeping active is a great way to not only get into better shape but also reduce stress and anxiety. The reason is that the happy chemicals are released in your brain when you work out. It’s a chance to clear your head and challenge yourself physically in a healthy and productive manner. Find activities you enjoy doing and that put a smile on your face. If you don’t have time for a full workout session then at least get outside for a 30-minute walk which can boost your mood and improve your health.
Seek Out Professional Treatment Options
You don’t have to struggle all on your own. It’s important that if you have a mental health condition you find the right treatment options. While medication can be a good solution you don’t necessarily have to completely rely on it. In some instances, you may find it beneficial to make an appointment with an integrative psychiatrist who will take a more holistic approach to treating your mental health condition. You want someone who’s educated and experienced and willing to take a new approach to mental health recovery. It’s your opportunity to feel better and will provide you with the necessary tools and coping mechanisms so you can live your best life.

Make Sleep A Priority
It’s essential that if you’re struggling with a mental health condition you make sleep a priority. It’s a chance to allow your mind and body to recover from a long day and you can boost your mood when you wake up feeling well-rested. Configure your bedroom for optimal rest and commit to going to bed at a decent hour. Relax your mind and body by engaging in a calming bedtime routine such as reading a book or drinking a warm cup of tea instead of playing on your electronics. It’s important you stick to a regular sleep schedule and get at least seven to nine hours of sleep each night. If you’re always overtired and lacking sleep you may feel sluggish and moody and not have the energy to tackle your to-do list and take good care of yourself.
Practice Gratitude & Focus on Positivity
Sometimes it’s useful to get in the habit of being thankful for what you do have and the fact that there’s help out there for your mental health condition. Consider practicing gratitude when you wake up in the morning and at night before you go to bed. Make a specific list of what you’re most thankful for and keep these items at the forefront of your mind. It’s also in your best interest to try to focus on the positive and identify and challenge negative and unhelpful thought patterns. One way to stay more positive is to start your day by reading some daily affirmations that make you feel motivated and inspired. Keep in mind that there’s a lot that you do have going for you and that makes you unique and special. Even though you are dealing with a mental health condition, remind yourself that it doesn’t define who you are.
Confide in A Trusted Friend or Family Member
Having a mental health condition can make you feel alone and isolated. The reality is that there’s still a stigma associated with mental health disorders. However, it’s important that you not feel ashamed or embarrassed with what you have. Instead, choose to be curious and learn more about it so you can manage it better and feel your best. It may help to confide in a trusted friend or family member so that you feel more connected and less lonely. Choose someone who is open to listening to what’s on your mind and can offer support and love. Find someone who you know won’t judge you and will simply be there for you in your time of need. They may not only be able to provide emotional support but also practical help and advice.
Now you.
