Stress is a very common condition that most people experience at some point in their lives. It can be caused by a lot of different factors, such as work, family, or even health problems. Your job is most likely going to be the leading factor in your stress. Whether you own your own business or work for an employer, it just happens.
While stress may be very common, it is so important to note that stress can also have negative effects on your mental and physical health. It can affect your professional life, and home life, and it can go as far as making you want to give up everything.
Burnout is one of the more common issues. It makes you lose that spark you once had for your career. While burnout is common, you’re ideally going to want to prevent this, as it can be costly to your job, and your career as a whole.

What are the Early Warning Signs of Burnout?
While burnout is very common, it’s something you’re certainly going to want to avoid. Usually, it just gets to a point where you’re wanting to give up on your career, but this can lead to other long-lasting effects on mental health and even physical health too.
Since burnout is such a hazard, it can however be avoided by being mindful of the early warning signs.
So, what are the signs? Some can include:

- Easily losing temper
- Feeling as if you’re not accomplishing anything
- Constant fatigue
- Excessive work hours and/or stress-related insomnia
- Feeling overwhelmed with personal life responsibilities
- Lack of fulfilment in your job or career
- Feeling dread when having to go back to work
While a lot of these feelings are common with a job, once they become chronic, or even if you notice your mental health (and physical health) spiralling downwards, you’re going to want to do something about it.
4 Actionable Steps to Prevent Burnout
While it’s not entirely a cakewalk to just remove the stress from your job, you’re going to need to find a way to take some steps to try and lower your stress, as this can help you from feeling burnt out. So here are some ideas:
- Identify the cause of the stress in your life.
- Find a way to reduce the stress in your life by changing one thing at a time.
- Take care of yourself by giving yourself a break from time to time and taking care of your mental health needs
- Get support from friends, family, or professionals
You may want to consider your environment as well, are you working remotely, and can your work allow you to work remotely? Working from home stats have proven that you can feel better if you change your environment and work from home.
If possible, try and this is a go.
Make sure you don’t work more than 40 hours unless it’s necessary, take time to yourself, and understand that breaks are needed. Not just for your mental health, but to improve your productivity as well.
