The start of a new year is always a good time for reflection. It’s an opportunity to think about what you want from the year ahead. You can then at least begin to make plans about how to get it.
Given everything that’s been happening in the world, mental wellness is likely to be a high priority for a lot of people. With that in mind, here are some tips on achieving it in 2022.

Start with your emotional wellness
We are busy seeking, striving, pushing, pulling, trying to fix or change, or just looking away from the truth of what we are.
Taking a break, a pause, a stop, is an option for us to step back, get in touch with ourselves, and remind us what we are.
Doing this often makes you stay ahead of the game. It immediately stops your mental noise, increases gray matter in your brain, and creates inner space.
I’m using The Sedona Method to help myself and my clients let go of emotional stress.
No matter what’s hampering you from feeling great and having optimal health, this method can help you make great strides in increasing your level of energy, relieving stress and stress-related illnesses.
Follow with your physical wellness
Mental wellness and physical wellness are closely linked. Influencing one, therefore, can often influence the other.
A lot of physical wellness effectively boils down to developing and/or maintaining healthy habits such as eating well, hydrating properly, and getting enough exercise. These can all be tracked and there are both digital and paper-based options for tracking them.
Tracking your health-related habits does, of course, take time but it is usually very much worth the effort. Keeping accurate records shows you what you are actually doing. This may be very different from what you think you are doing.
For example, you may think of yourself as being only a moderate drinker but your records may say otherwise. This can be disheartening but identifying a problem is the first step to fixing it. In the case of excessive drinking, this can mean anything from adjusting your habits to considering whether you need help from treatment centers.
Find a way to empty your mind
An overactive mind can be a major barrier to mental wellness. Fortunately, there are lots of ways to combat this. You may need to try a few before you identify which ones work best for you.
As a first step, track your lifestyle and see if you’re doing anything to overstimulate your mind. For example, are you consuming excess caffeine? This can be surprisingly easy to do since caffeine is found in a lot of foods and drinks. In addition to the obvious tea and coffee, it’s in many fizzy drinks and also chocolate, especially dark chocolate.
Then look at fast-acting solutions. These generally work by getting you to capture what’s in your mind at any given point. Common examples of these solutions include planning/bullet journaling, regular journaling, keeping a diary, and brain-dumping. All of these can be done on paper and/or digitally.
These may be enough for you. It can, however, be helpful to look at slower-acting solutions such as meditation, tai chi, and yoga. Practicing these regularly can help you to remain calm, focused, and positive even in stressful situations.
Commit to getting outdoors
There really are all kinds of benefits to fresh air. It’s even better if you can take some form of exercise in the fresh air. This can be as gentle as going for a walk. The point is just to get you moving.
If, however, exercise isn’t an option, then just getting some fresh air about you can do a lot for your mental wellness. In fact, simply opening a window at home (or at work if you can) often boosts your sense of wellbeing by literally refreshing the atmosphere.
Now you.
Which of these lifestyle tactics that you can use to show love yourself?
